1896 - 1926 Nott family

In 1896, Louis P. Nott, an engineering contractor on railway and dock work, and his family lived in Stoke House until 1926.

This first photograph was probably taken around the year 1895, just before the family moved to Stoke House.

The second photograph was probably taken around the year 1910, on the side steps of Stoke House.

This third photograph, taken on the side steps outside Stoke House, shows Louis Phillip Nott (right, in the uniform of a senior officer in the Royal Engineers) and his three sons (left-right), Louis, Thomas and Henry. Tragically, all three sons were killed in the First World War. Tom and Louis were both killed by a mine with a delayed fuse in HQ (see the Bristol Evening World 23 April 1932). The leaving date from Clifton College of Louis Nott and the first commission date of Tom Nott means that the photograph must have been taken between 5 February and July 1911.

For more about the three Nott sons, see below.
