Revd Stephen Finamore  LLB, MA, DPhil  Principal

For the last decade Steve was minister of a church in north-west Bristol. In the past he has been a lawyer, led a community development project in inner London, and worked for a rural development project in the Andes of northern Peru. Steve maintains links with Peru especially with the Evangelical Seminary in Lima. He has been involved with the agency Tearfund for the last 20 years, including 10 as a trustee and director. Steve trained for ministry and read theology in Oxford. His doctoral work is on the Book of Revelation. His interests include Biblical Studies, Christian Doctrine, Mission Studies, Ecclesiology, and Apocalyptic. He has made a particular study of the work of René Girard. Steve is a council member and a trustee of the Baptist Union of Great Britain. His other interests include sport and film. Steve is married to Rebecca who works as a district nurse and they have two daughters. 

 

Revd Ernest Lucas  MA, PhD, PhD   Vice-Principal and Tutor in Biblical Studies

 

Ernest's first PhD was earned in the field of biochemistry; his second is in Old Testament studies. His science and faith come together in an undergraduate unit he teaches on the interactions between science and Christianity and in the book Can we Believe Genesis Today? (IVP, 2001). He teaches undergraduate-level units on Genesis and Daniel; he is author of a commentary on Daniel (Apollos, 2002). He also teaches Greek and Hebrew. His interest in hermeneutics translates into teaching a first-year-level unit on biblical interpretation, and combined with an interest in contemporary issues, is expounded in Being Transformed (Marshall Pickering, 1988).He has recently (May 2010) been honoured by the University of Bristol with the title Research Fellow.

Sian Murray Williams  BA, MBA, BTh   Tutor in Worship Studies

 

Following her first college experience where she left with a degree in English with Education, she spent three years in the USA working for the Baptist World Alliance in Washington DC. She was then on staff for 12 years with the Baptist Missionary Society in promotion and event work, and latterly as Director for Missionaries. Three years of training for the ministry at Regent’s Park College in Oxford led to her first pastorate at Littlemore Baptist Church in the city. She is currently the Moderator of the Faith & Unity Committee of the Baptist Union of Great Britain. She is a spiritual director and has been involved in leading retreats and quiet days. She has led worship at a number of events, both Baptist and ecumenical. She is passionate about exploring ways to help people grow in faith and life.

 

 

Revd Ken Stewart  MA, BSc, DPS   Director of Pastoral and Mission Studies

 

Ken came to the Baptist College in August 2004 after serving in local pastorates in Derby, Norwich and, most recently, Bristol. His interests over the years have centred on counselling and relationships, and he has been involved both with marriage guidance and family therapy. He wrote a report on childlessness for the Baptist Union of Great Britain and has also served as a hospital chaplain. As well as being a trained spiritual director, Ken has a good deal of experience of local radio work and has also written a regular column for a regional daily newspaper. He teaches in the areas of pastoral theology, mission and religion and sickness, healing and dying, as well as overseeing the Baptist College's Prepare for Service course and those ministerial students following a congregation-based course.
