Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali honoured

8 June 2010
Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali and his wife Valerie paid a special visit to Trinity College yesterday to mark the bishop's retirement last year after 12 years as chairman of the college council. Bishop Michael gave a public lecture entitled 'The Unique and Universal Christ', and attended a dinner given in his honour.
In his wide-ranging and erudite lecture the bishop looked at other religions' views of Jesus and explained the case for the traditional Christian claims in the New Testament and the early church, exploring how these claims might relate to today's multi-faith societies.
At a dinner afterwards, attended by council members and faculty, the bishop was presented with some Bristol blue glass with the Trinity logo on it (in the photo). He was warmly thanked by Tony Miles, acting chairman of the council.
Bishop Michael, who originally comes from Pakistan and is a convert from Islam, has retired as Bishop of Rochester and is now involved in work with the persecuted church around the world. He is author of many books including The Unique and Universal Christ: Jesus in a plural world (Paternoster Press).
