E11001 Continuing the Mission of Jesus

This unit provides

1 an introduction to the theology, scope and practice of Christian mission in the light of the mission of Jesus and his Kingdom

2 foundations for student commitment to the principle of holistic mission in the context of the local church

3 an opportunity to examine the definition of mission as essentially God's mission, and go on to develop a foundational theology of mission based on the biblical tradition centred on Jesus

4 a survey of the history of mission and the historical developments of models of contextual mission within the major Christian traditions

5 a brief overview of contemporary challenges to Christian mission in a global context, especially in relation to issues of justice, the environment and other faiths.
