Families at Trinity

Student spouses and children are an important part of the Trinity community.  Coming to college affects the whole family and may involve a considerable upheaval. We aim to make it as easy as possible for you by including families in college activities and providing opportunities to meet each other for friendship and support.

Meals in college

Children are welcome at college meals. Each student is entitled to 10 free meals each term for spouses, family or friends. Extra meals are charged at a reasonable rate. Children in high chairs (these are provided) are free and school-age children are half price. Different menus are provided in the dining room by Henry Bromberg our chef and his team, and special diets catered for.

Spouses' group

Connect is a group run specially for spouses (men and women).

Coming to classes

Student spouses are welcome to audit classes (i.e. attend lectures but not do any of the written work). This is free, but you need to register in advance. If you want to enrol as a full member of a module or course, you are welcome to do so, and will be charged a special rate of only at 50% of that paid by independent students.

If you complete a range of subjects at first-year level over one or two years (through the evening course or attending regular day-time classes) you can qualify for a Certificate in Theology or our Foundation Certificate in Christian Studies.  Again, there is a 50% reduction for spouses.

Activities for children

We provide a creche at certain college events and for older children there is STRYPE (Special Trinity Young People's Events) for school-aged children once a month during the Thursday evening Communion Service. Some families stay to supper in college afterwards.

Day Nursery

One of Trinity's great assets is that it has its own OFSTED-registered Day Nursery in a separate building on the campus. This provides single care sessions for those attending courses as well as weekday care between 8.30am and 5.30pm. It is open to non-Trinity people too so it gives a good opportunity of getting to know those in the locao community.

Special events

Throughout the year we have special college events to which spouses are welcome, such as the Christmas and summer parties. Each Pastoral Group will also have its own social events.

At the Welcome Weekend at the start of the academic year we lay on activities such as a bouncy castle, puppet show, face painting and balloon modelling for children.
