Map and directions
By car - from the North and Wales
Exit 17 from the M5, proceed along the A4018 into Bristol. Follow this road for about 4 miles to a roundabout on the edge of Durdham Down (large green open space). Turn right into Parrys Lane then left into Saville Road. At the traffic lights, turn right into Stoke Hill. Trinity College is a few hundred yards down the hill on the right-hand side, along Bishop's Close. There is a sign on the corner of Bishops Close.
By car - from London and the East
We recommend that you take the M4 followed by the M5 South. Then proceed as instructed above.
By car - from the South West
Exit the M5 at Junction 18 (Avonmouth) and take the A4 (Portway) toward the city centre. At the Sylvan Way Traffic Lights (approx. 2 miles) turn left towards Sea Mills and then right at the next traffic lights into Shirehampton Rd (B4054). Follow this through Sea Mills and on into Parrys Lane. After the University Halls turn right into Saville Rd (unnamed) at the edge of Durdham Downs (see map above). At the traffic lights turn right down Stoke Hill. Take the second right into Bishop's Close with the college ahead.
By car - from Bristol city centre
From the city centre follow the directions for Clifton to St Augustine's Parade. Keep right and turn up College Green and Park St (past the Cathedral). At the top of Park St turn left and follow the one-way system around the Triangle and left to Queens Rd. Turn immediately right into Whiteladies Rd. Go up Whiteladies Rd and at the very top go straight ahead at the traffic lights to cross the Downs by the Water Tower (see map above). Go straight across at the next traffic lights at the end of the Downs. Bishop's Close and the college is the second right, a few hundred yards down the road.
Bristol has two stations, Temple Meads and Parkway. We recommend catching a taxi from either station costing approx 12 pounds. It is possible to take public transport only from Temple Meads. Take a number 8 or 9 bus from the station forecourt (keep going round to the right when you come out of the main station entrance) to the cathedral/College Green (time: about 15 mins). You will see the cathedral across an open green space. From here catch a number 40 bus (every 20 or 30 minutes) and ask for Church Avenue/Stoke Hill (time: 20-30 mins). The bus sets you down just below the college (see map above). Cross the road and go a little way up the hill to the drive with the no-entry signs (red circles with white lines across them). That will take you past Trinity Day Nursery to the main building.
Alternatively there is a two-coach train (Severn Beach Line) which you can take from Temple Meads (usually platform 1, but check on the Departures screen - look for Severn Beach or Avonmouth) to Clifton Down station. (Either buy your ticket to all the way to Clifton Down from wherever you start, or you can buy a ticket on the train - about 1 pound single, 2 pounds return.) At Clifton Down turn right out of the station forecourt, and wait for a no. 40 bus outside the Clifton Down shopping centre (same side of road). Follow directions above.
So from Temple Meads, if you don't get a taxi, it's a question of two buses (8/9/8A/9A and 40) or the little train and bus (40). If you don't have a lot of luggage, you can get the 8/9 route to Black Boy Hilltop (where it turns round and comes back - the red roundabout at the bottom of the circular map below), and then walk straight across the Downs to Trinity along Stoke Road then Stoke Hill. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk.
From the National Express Coach station a taxi costs approx 10 pounds. Alternatively walk up the hill (Park Row) to the Museum and Art Gallery (not far). Cross over the road to the number 40 bus stop (the bus will go in the same direction as you have been walking). Then follow directions above.
From Bristol Airport
The simplest way to get to Trinity from Bristol Airport is by one of the airport taxis, which can be booked in advance online; the cost is about 24 pounds. There is also a bus, the Bristol International Flyer (number A2, cost 6 pounds single), which will take you to the central bus station. From there you can get a taxi to Trinity costing about 10 pounds. Alternatively walk up the hill (Park Row) to the Museum and Art Gallery (not far). Cross over the road to the number 40 bus stop (the bus will go in the same direction as you have been walking). the bus goes north up Whiteladies Road (see map below). Ask for Church Avenue/Stoke Hill (time: 20-30 mins). The bus sets you down just below the college (see map above). Cross the road and go a little way up the hill to the drive with the no-entry signs (red circles). That will take you past Trinity Day Nursery to the main building.
