A leading theologian from India, who is deeply committed to justice and social action for India's underprivileged classes, is our latest resident at Henry Martyn House, Trinity's Centre for World Christianity.
Father Monodeep Daniel is a Presbyter of the Delhi Diocese of the Church of North India and a member of the the Delhi Brotherhood, a religious order which originated as part of the Cambridge University mission to India. The Brotherhood is devoted to serving the poor and underprivileged, which includes organising education and health care programmes.
Father Monodeep, a respected teacher and priest, has been the Dean of the Cathedral Church of the Redemption and head of the Delhi Brotherhood. He is currently the presbyter in charge of St James' Church, Kashmere Gate, Delhi. He is also a keen liturgist and is on the liturgical commission of the Church of North India.
As a leading theologian on the Dalits (once known as untouchables or outcasts), he has written a number of books; the most recent is Models of Leadership in the Indian Church (Edinburgh University Press, 2007). He is currently completing his doctoral research on the Indian thinker B. R. Ambedkar, the main architect of the Indian Constitution, in the Netherlands at the Free University of Amsterdam.
