Part-time Certificate in Theology

We offer a part-time training programme for the Certificate in Theology validated by the University of Bristol. Each course begins in September and takes place during evenings and some weekends at Trinity College Bristol. This is a two-year programme.

 

Course overview

Classes will take place on Tuesday evenings once a week and four Saturdays per year. In addition some units (indicated by *) each year will be taught as a single week. There are breaks for school half terms, Christmas and Easter. These classes will enable the student to complete 120 credits.

Year 1

2  Reading the Bible in Its Context and Ours
3  Pastoral Theology
4  Following Jesus: Introducing Christian Discipleship
5  Early Christianity *
6  Integrated Learning Week*

Year 2

7  Getting into the Old Testament
8  Essentials of Christian Belief
9  Gospel of John
10 Book of Job
11 Continuing the Mission of Jesus
12 Integrated Learning Week *

Short descriptions of each of these units are available by clicking on the titles above. Each unit will require preliminary reading and the completion of a written assessment. It is estimated that the equivalent of a day a week will be needed for reading and assessments in addition to the teaching time. Full descriptions of the aims, learning outcomes and assessment of these units will be made available to the students who enrol on the course. The relevance of the classroom teaching to practical ministry will be emphasised throughout. Students will be helped to reflect theologically and work collaboratively.

The faculty of Trinity College Bristol and Bristol Baptist College will be the primary tutors for the course according to their areas of specialisation.

 

Cost

The cost for the first year of the Certificate for 2013-2014 is £1,200. In addition to this, there is a University fee to pay each year. The current cost of this is £350. The University fee will be paid as a deposit which is due before the course starts and the rest of the course is paid for in instalments over the two years.
