The Trinity Centre for World Christianity:

Staying at Henry Martyn House

The Trinity Centre for World Christianity is based at Henry Martyn House. This house is named after Henry Martyn, an English missionary who served in India and Iran. Martyn was a man remembered for his courage, selflessness and his religious devotion. His legacy was the missionary vocation, stimulating scholarship and the translation of the Scriptures into Urdu and Farsi.

We believe that this house is a provision of God to our college community in order to facilitate global conversations between people from the world church, mission personnel, theologians, missiologists and our students preparing for servant leadership in mission and ministry in the church. This house was bought in faith and we as a college have experienced the miraculous grace and provisions of God while purchasing and refurbishing this property.

It is conveniently situated in the beautiful grounds of Trinity College. Trinity has 18 teaching staff and about 120 full-time students (as well as part-timers) who come from some 12 nations. We have historically served the Anglican Church and we are currently the largest college within the Church of England. Our aspiration is to serve the world church and to participate with others in a new evangelisation of the UK and Europe.

The Centre has three modern study bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom and internet access.  Those invited to be a part of this centre will have access to Trinity's theological library of about 40,000 volumes and become a part of our research-active community.

The Centre for World Christianity provides opportunity for sabbaticals, short periods of study, research, conferences and seminars on mission, and interaction with other scholars, college students, staff and local churches in Bristol.

The Centre has been established to:

1. Promote and encourage the mission of God through cross-cultural global theologising
2. Encourage fresh thinking and research about global mission by bringing together world church  and mission leaders with both practitioners and academic scholars.
3. Offer guests the opportunity for rest, refreshment and research within the worship, fellowship and academic rhythm of Trinity College.
4.Stimulate missional thinking and spirituality within the curriculum and life of Trinity College.
5. Facilitate the use of world church music and the arts to enrich the life and witness of the college through an artist-in-residence programme.
6. Provide a safe space for encounters of different cultures reflecting the diversity of the world church community at Trinity.
7. Create opportunities to showcase different facets of the world church to the local church.
8. Publicise articles and papers which emerge out of the conversations at the Centre.

Scholars from any part of the world who are able to cover the costs of their travel and their day-to-day expenses are welcome to apply. The privilege of staying in the house is by invitation only. The house is available for periods ranging from one week to nine months. Trinity will provide a study bedroom with full accommodation and meals. Scholars who come for periods of private study and research will be expected and encouraged to participate in the life of the college and to contribute from their expertise from time to time in seminars and other teaching opportunities.
