Three-year ordinands
If you have three years in which to complete your ordinand training, then you can choose to complete the University of Bristol BA (Hons) in Theology This programme provides a rigorous and balanced teaching in biblical and pastoral studies, in discipleship and leadership, church doctrine and history as well as in mission and evangelism.
If you already have a BA (Hons) degree in another subject at 2.2 level or less you will be able to complete a BA (Hons) in Theology in three years. If you already have a BA (Hons) degree in another subject at 2.1 level or above, then you are eligible to study for the Postgraduate Diploma in Theology along with a taught MA in Theology or a Postgraduate Diploma in Theology. Some students choose to pursue the MPhil programme which involves writing a longer dissertation and which has no taught component.
Admission to either of these programmes is conditional on good performance (at least 2.1) at undergraduate level and is decided by the Trinity College Director of Postgraduate Studies and the University of Bristol Graduate Dean. Students who wish to pursue the MPhil programme also require the agreement of the Ministry Division Further Degrees Panel.
Both programmes provide a balanced curriculum that meets the academic requirements of the University of Bristol and the training expectations of the Ministry Division of the Church of England. Perhaps even more pertinently, our curriculum aims to equip you to lead churches from maintenance to mission, to pioneer new churches and fresh expressions of church, as well as to pastor growing congregations that serve their communities in the love of Christ.
