Trinity/ICES Open Learning courses
Trinity College inherited courses from Interactive Christian Extension Studies (ICES) when ICES was incorporated into Trinity in 2010. These courses continue to be studied by several groups but will be replaced by updated Foundations courses when these become available.
The Trinity/ICES courses comprise seven biblical courses which aim to give the student familiarity with the contents and message of each book and confidence in handling the text itself and three introductory courses in the area of Practical Theology:
The Pentateuch
Genesis to Deuteronomy, a strong foundation for biblical theology
Historical Books of the Old Testament
Joshua to Kings: the history of Israel from conquest to exile
Prophecy in the Old Testament
The Old Testament's prophetic books and themes
Worship and the Psalms
The hymns of ancient Israel (as used by Jesus!) and worship in the church today
Synoptic Gospels and Acts
New Testament books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and Acts
Letters of Paul
The message of Paul's letters then and now
Writings of John
John's Gospel, Letters of John and Revelation
Introduction to Christian Theology
Main doctrines of Christian faith and the reasons for holding them
Introduction to Christian Ethics
How do we find answers to today's moral questions?
Introduction to Church History
From its start to the present, focusing on the main characters and periods
We also offer a short 8-week course on the life of Jesus from St Matthew's Gospel: Snapshots from the Life of Christ. This is ideal for a Lent course or as a taster for our Open Learning courses
